A common misconception about the role of a Document Controller

❌🔔 Reading through a job description for a Document Controller recently and alarm bells were ringing! 🔔 ❌

Unfortunately there still seems to be a misconception about the role of Document Control. 😕

In a project environment Document Controllers exist to 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 and 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 documents. A Document Controller 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 be acting as an administrator or modifying documents.

Through modifying or correcting the mistakes of others we are taking away from the regulating function. How will anyone ever learn if we are to correct the mistakes❓ How can we regulate or control information if there is a lack of accountability and ownership❓

Document Control is a 🔑 interface in a project environment and when done well, it will add significant value to your project ensuring 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆, 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 and 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 within your project.
